HS FOOTBALL: Hussman's clutch kick punches Albany's ticket to regional finals

In high school football you don’t really see them a whole lot, especially in class 1A.
In fact when it comes to Albany, before November 29th, 2013, they only kicked two field goals in the entire 2013 season. Little did they know, that would be the deciding factor in their 24-21 win over Iraan in the regional semifinals when Jared Hussman nailed a 30-yard field goal with only 13 seconds left in the game.
"I was terrified,” Hussman told KTXS.
“It was one of the scariest moments, but when I saw it go through the uprights it was the best feeling I’ve ever had. We were all just so pumped up and they (coaches) had to get us back in order pretty fast cause we still had time to play."
"We had a lot of confidence in him especially with the way he's kicked for us,” head coach Denney Faith told KTXS. “It was just a confidence thing."
Hussman’s teammates relayed their coaches message.
"I had confidence in Jared and Alex (Faith),” says senior center Ethan Nall. “They practice everyday and I just wanted to make sure I got my part done cause I did I know they'd get it done."
Friday's finish was even more impressive considering the fact that Husmann's only been the kicker for the last six week's after senior Justin Jones went down with a knee injury. Husmann has had to learn on the fly when it comes to kicking in the bright lights of high school football.
"It was really different,” says Husmann. “It's a new experience and at first it was really nerve racking but after awhile you get a hang of it.”
Albany will face Muenster Friday, 7:30pm at Rams stadium in Mineral Wells in the 1A division II region I finals.
