Kingsbury says no reason to slow down offenses

NEW YORK -

Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury says unless it can be shown that up-tempo offenses lead to more injuries, he sees no reason to slow down the game with rule changes.

Kingsbury is heading into his first season with the Red Raiders after being Texas A&M's offensive coordinator last season. With the Aggies, the former Texas Tech quarterback helped Johnny Manziel win the Heisman Trophy and set numerous Southeastern Conference records.

Alabama coach Nick Saban and Arkansas coach Bret Bielema are among those who have suggested the NCAA consider tweaking the rules to limit how quickly offenses can run plays and allow defenses more time to substitute players.

Kingsbury says: "You want me to play slower, well, OK, you need to get smaller, less strong defensive linemen."
