Local MMA fighters ready for big bout in Abilene

ABILENE, Texas -

Premier Martial Arts is getting ready for the fifth edition of "Fight Night" which features amateur mixed martial artists competing in UFC style cage fights. The event will take place at the Abilene Civic Center 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Of the ten scheduled fights, seven competitors hail from the Big Country. Premier Martial Arts owner James Cox has been trying to build up the local flavor

"Mixed martial arts is the fastest growing sport in the world," says Cox. "The fan base is growing extremely. It's not just for fighters. It's not just for men. We've got people that come watch the show like children, women, and older people. There is something for everyone."

Fights start at 6 p.m, doors open at 5 p.m.

2. David Waters vs. Xavier Siller 130 lbs

3. Taha Habib vs. Homer Matlock (Colorado City native) 195 lbs

4. Forrest Cox vs. Carlos Ortega (Abilene native) 170 lbs

5. Adrian Muniz vs. Tymon Aguilar (Abilene native) 140 lbs

6. Gabriel Arce vs. John Reynolds (Abilene native) 150 lbs

7. Edgar Barajas vs. Randy Hernandez 185 lbs

8. Jimmy Yanez vs. Nicholas Webb (Abilene native) 160 lbs

9. Eva Mendoza vs. Brandi Cabos 135 lbs

10. Griffen Gardner vs. Jeff Potter (Colorado City native) 145 lbs

Tickets for the event can be bought at the Fight Shop at the Abilene Mall or at the doors of the civic center which opens at 5 p.m. Fights start at 6 p.m.
