The Green Bay Packers signed general manager Ted Thompson to a multi-year contract extension Wednesday. Terms of the extension were not disclosed.

Thompson, who also holds the titles of executive vice president and director of football operations, is entering his 10th season as the head of the team's football operations. One of the most respected executives in the league, Thompson has helped groom a number of high-level personnel evaluators, including Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider and Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie.

Known for his sharp scouting eye, Thompson has built the Packers into a perennial playoff contender largely through the NFL Draft since taking over as general manager in 2005.

"I'm pleased that we were able to enter into this contract extension with Ted," Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy said. "His outstanding work has been the key factor in the success that we've enjoyed in recent years. I have tremendous respect for Ted, and am confident that we will continue to contend for championships under his leadership."

Thompson, 61, responded via the team's Twitter account as to why he would be interested in another extension at this stage of his career.

"It's easy to say I'm going to ride off into the sunset, but I have people that I'm responsible for here. People I've hired," he wrote.
