War Hawk women's swimmers top Wayland Baptist

ABILENE, Texas -

McMurry University’s women’s swim team gave a dominant performance in its season opener, notching a 111-42 victory over Wayland Baptist University at the Phillips Family Center.

The War Hawk women won nine of the 11 events contested. Leading the way was freshman Kelsey Frazier, who won two individual events – the 200 individual medley (2:29.32) and 100 butterfly (1:06.30) – and swam on two winning relays in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

Sophomore Samantha Spain and freshman Kelly McNamee also each won a pair of races. Spain was first in both the 100 freestyle (1:00.20) and 200 freestyle (2:11.31), while also finishing second in the 50 freestyle. Spain also swam a leg on the 200 freestyle relay squad.

McNamee was tops in the 100 backstroke (1:04.10) and 1000 freestyle (13.25.64). She also had the leadoff leg of the 200 medley relay.

Sarah Hernandez led a 1-2-3 sweep by the War Hawks in the 50 freestyle, winning in a time of 26.44 seconds. Spain was second (26.90) and Lauren Heathcote third (30.14). Hernandez was second in the 100 freestyle and also swam a leg on both winning relays.

Shannon Samples was McM’s other winner in the 500 freestyle, clocking in at 6:33.15.

Emma Donaldson was also called on in both relays. She was second in the 200 IM.
