War Hawks men's Soccer sprint past Dallas Christian, 5-0
Jacob Howdeshell scored two second-half goals en route to a 5-0 McMurry University win over Dallas Christian College Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Edwards Field.
The War Hawks' offense pressured the Crusaders throughout the first half, but missed several scoring opportunities before Antoine Freitas (Salvador, Brazil/Centro Educational Permanente) scored with two minutes remaining.
"In the first half we weren't playing very well and we probably should have scored three or four goals in the opening 15 minutes," McM head coach Paul Tate said following the match. "At halftime I told them we need to reevaluate how we are playing and that we needed to move the ball better and create some scoring opportunities."
It didn't take long for the War Hawks to respond to Tate's challenge.
Jaime Hernandez (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva HS) scored two minutes into the second half and Howdeshell (Missouri City, Texas/Elkins HS) scored moments later to break open the game.
David Cato (Canyon, Texas/Canyon HS) scored at the 64-minute mark and Howdeshell scored his second goal 15 minutes later.
McM outshot the Crusaders (5-9-1) 46-6, including a 23-2 margin in the second half.
"Besides the first 44 minutes of the game, it was our best offensive output," Tate said. "We didn't let up and we continued to compete and that's what you want to see from your team."
McM (4-7-1) returns to action Monday at St. Edward's University.
