ABILENE, Texas -

Good Wednesday morning everyone! Big weather changes are on the horizon starting later tonight. The temperature roller coaster gets back in motion for West Texas!

Today look for high cloud cover to flow across the region impeding sunshine just a bit into the afternoon hours. High temperatures top out around 60 degrees. Winds will blow from the southwest at 5-10mph and shift northeasterly in the afternoon.

Later tonight we follow a surge of colder air moving into the Big Country and settling through the viewing area by sunrise Thursday morning. Skies will become cloudy in the overnight period and winds will become very breezy gusting to 30mph.

Thursday afternoon temperatures will be falling through the 20s as skies remain cloudy. The wild card in the forecast is a weakening disturbance moving at us from the west. Light snow or flurries are possible as we approach the evening hours. A period of freezing drizzle / light sleet is also possible. The best chances for any wintry weather will be across the southern half of our viewing area. Though we are only expecting light amounts of scattered precipitation, keep in mind it does not take much to create slick travel. Lows Thursday night will be in the middle to upper teens. Wind chills may drop into the single digits.

Any light wintry mix ends early Friday morning leaving just mostly cloudy skies in its wake. By afternoon, some sunshine should break out and help us to recover to near 40 degrees.

Partly cloudy skies are in the forecast for Friday night with lows in the upper 20s.

Saturday we begin a rapid warm-up into the lower to middle 60s under partly sunny conditions.

Sunday appears even warmer with readings moving into the upper 60s to near 70. Full sunshine is expected.

There are now indications of another strong arctic front to approach early Monday. This may drop temperatures significantly once again. We will be tracking this front closely in the coming days as there is some uncertainty in its arrival time and strength.
