ABILENE, Tx -

Weather changes underway this Thursday morning! Temperatures have fallen into the lower 30s across West Texas and will not be rising much through the day as gusty north winds continue to send cold air into our region.

Mostly cloudy skies are expected to be with us for the duration of the afternoon though some peaks of sun can occur early today. Winds will blow at 20-25 gusting as high as 35mph.

The forecast for precipitation remains largely unchanged with a slight chance for flurries developing later this afternoon and evening near I-20 and points south. The best chance for measurable wintry precipitation will be further south closer to the I-10 corridor.

Winter weather advisories are in effect for the following counties: Erath, Comanche, Mills, and McCulloch.

Light accumulation of snow and ice could approach one half inch to one inch in these areas. If you are traveling in this direction over the next 24 hours please be mindful that you may be running into slick roadways.

It is worth noting that there are considerable differences in computer guidance and we will provide you with any updates in the forecast if necessary throughout the day.

Overnight lows will be dropping into the teens for most folks in West Texas on Thursday night. Wind chills will be as low as the single digits.

Friday any wintry mix south and east will quickly move out and decreasing clouds are forecasted from northwest to southeast across the viewing area. Even with sunshine breaking out, temperatures will only warm into the lower to middle 40s.

As quickly as the cold air will have moved in, just as quickly will it exit the scene on Saturday morning. Warmth returns by Saturday afternoon with highs surging into the lower and middle 60s under mostly sunny skies.

Expansive sunshine is back for Sunday as we make a run for 70 degrees during the afternoon hours.

Monday morning we track another round of cold air poised to move into the area. Highs look to be in the middle and upper 40s for Monday under partly cloudy skies.

Looking into mid week, temperatures very well may remain below normal near 40 on Tuesday. Wednesday sees a mix of sun and clouds and the thermometer back into lower 50s. Sunshine will dominate.
