ABILENE, Texas -

Plenty of sunshine will usher in above normal temperatures for the first day of the year but a cold front is on the way.

The morning begins around 40 degrees for many before afternoon highs warm to the mid 60s.

Winds will be breezy throughout the day, coming in from the southwest at 10 to 20 mph.

A cold front will move in late this afternoon. No rain chances accompany this front but we will keep the breezy winds going through the night with some much cooler temps.

Lows this evening will cool to the mid 20s. North winds will come in around 10 to 20 mph.

Thursday, afternoon highs will warm to the mid 40s with sunshine and north winds at 5 to 10 mph.

Friday begins in the mid 20s before warming to the upper 50s.

The weekend comes in with clear skies. Morning temps Saturday will begin around 40 degrees before highs top out in the low to mid 60s.

Another cold front sweeps in Saturday night. By Sunday morning we'll see morning temps in the mid 20s.

Through the afternoon we'll see a few clouds but otherwise, dry conditions prevail. Highs will warm to the upper 40s.

Monday morning begins very chilly with lows in the low 20s. We'll see a good mix of clouds and sun through the afternoon with a reinforcing cold front sweeping in through the afternoon.

Ahead of the front, look for afternoon highs in the upper 40s.

That strong cold front will cause lows to dip into the upper teens with mostly cloudy skies overnight. Tuesday afternoon we'll struggle to make it out of the 30s with mostly cloudy skies.
