ABILENE, Texas -

After a very warm Wednesday with afternoon temperatures in the upper 80s, a cold front should race through our region between sunrise and noon Thursday.

It will bring cooler temperatures and create strong north winds at 20-25 mph with higher gusts.

Those strong winds and low humidity air will create elevated wildfire danger for our region and Red Flag Warnings are in effect for the daylight hours Thursday.  That means no outdoor burning is allowed.

Even with sunny skies, temperatures will be noticeably cooler Thursday with afternoon readings in the 60s.

Winds should diminish quickly Thursday night lowering back down to around 10 mph.   A light freeze will be possible Friday morning as temperatures drop into the lower 30s.

That cool air does not stay long.  Temperatures should be back into the 70s for the afternoon hours Friday and Saturday.
