Rainfall Expected Midweek
Sunday turned out quite hot here in Abilene with a high temperature of 98 degrees. A few areas this afternoon did see a brief shower and even a thunderstorm. Any thunderstorms this evening are expected to be short-lived but could produce a heavy downpour with gusty winds. As the sun sets, the thunderstorms will fade and a general partly cloudy sky will persist into Monday morning.
Partly cloudy skies are expected on Monday with a slight chance for an afternoon thundershower again in the heat of the day. We are forecasting temperatures to reach the upper 90s once again. Monday night we will see mostly fair skies with readings settling back into the lower to mid 70s for overnight lows. Tuesday looks like another hot one. A mostly sunny start to the day will give way to a partly sunny sky by afternoon with temperatures expected to reach 99 degrees.
Wednesday we are tracking a cold front that will be approaching north Texas. It looks now like showers and thunderstorms will become possible in the afternoon hours. Temperatures on Wednesday should reach the lower 90s before any rainfall arrives with cooler temperatures. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain in the forecast through Friday as embedded shortwaves continue to ride the eastern side of high pressure centered off to our west. We are hopeful that the combination of increased cloud cover and rain chances will keep our temperatures just a bit cooler during this period.
An early look at next weekend shows conditions drying out with temperatures moving back into the mid 90s under a mix of sun and clouds. We will have more updates throughout the week.
