ABILENE, Texas -

Pockets of heavy rainfall will continue this morning across West Central Texas.

As of 3 a.m., we had seen near 0.6 in. rain at Abilene Regional Airport. Thus far it has been a general light to moderate rain here in Abilene. The potential still does exist for heavy downpours through this morning into the early afternoon hours. Please stay away from any flooded roadways and do not drive through any ponding of water.

The forecast is for showers to remain likely into the early afternoon period. Precipitation will begin to taper down from north to south as we head into the evening hours. The cold front will be making headway southward through the region and as it passes will shut off our best rain chances as we get into the latter part of the evening. High temperatures on our Friday will only make it into the mid to upper 70s.

Overnight we expect decreasing clouds with a cool low in the lower to mid 60s.

The weekend ahead looks considerably more seasonable than we have seen in quite some time. And it is right on cue as Fall begins on Sunday. Despite strong sunshine on both days, a northerly flow will keep temperatures slightly below normal with highs in the lower to mid 80s. High pressure will be in firm control squashing any rain chances.

Looking into early next week, we will continue to see large amounts of sunshine with just some passing clouds. Temperatures will slowly rebound into the upper 80s to near 90 degrees by midweek. No rain is in the current forecast.
