ABILENE, Texas -

Hot afternoon temperatures and a weak upper level disturbance combined to create severe thunderstorms in our region Thursday afternoon.

A home was destroyed in the southwest part of Sweetwater by strong thunderstorm winds.  Large sections of metal roofing were ripped from a home in Hawley and off of a farm equipment storage shed southwest of Anson Thursday afternoon.

We should start Friday with quiet weather.  However, as a cold front moves into the Big Country during Friday afternoon, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop.

Expect frequent lightning with strong, damaging winds possible again Friday afternoon and early evening.

Temperatures Friday should climb into the upper 90s in the Big Country with readings in the low 100s again in the Concho Valley and Heartland.

Slightly milder temperatures are forecast for Friday night with lows in the low to middle 70s.  Afternoon temperatures Saturday and Sunday should be low to middle 90s.

There will be a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms for areas mainly south of I-20 Saturday.  For Sunday, slight thunderstorm chances are back for the Big Country.
