ABILENE, Texas -

We continue to track our weekend rain chances across West Central Texas. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop on Saturday morning.

Today expect a mix of sun and clouds with breezy southerly winds continuing at 10-20 mph. Temperatures are expected to rise to near 90 degrees once again today. Humidity levels will be increasing significantly throughout the day as moist air gets brought northward from the Gulf of Mexico in advance of an approaching cold front from the west. We should remain dry through the daylight hours of Friday.

Tonight look for variably cloudy skies. A shower or thunderstorm can become possible into the overnight hours with a low near 70 degrees.

Saturday morning we will see some showers and thunderstorms develop first in our northwestern counties and then moving southeastward through the viewing area as we get towards noon and beyond. Rain chances are around 60%. Models indicate the best chances for rainfall will be the further north and east you go in our region. We will track this throughout the day. Severe weather looks unlikely at the moment. Clouds and precipitation will only allow temperatures to rise into the lower 80s at best.

The cold front will slow down as it progresses southward through the area. This means spots like the Concho Valley and Heartland will see rain showers several hours after the Big Country sees its first raindrops. With the front's southward push slowing as it moves through, it appears possible that some showers and thundershowers can linger into parts of Sunday especially for southern areas. Northerly flow on Sunday will keep temperatures relegated to the lower 80s.

Early next week sunshine filled skies should return and it looks like the weather pattern may just get back to producing very warm above normal temperatures for West Central Texas. Readings very close to 90 degrees by midweek are a distinct possibility.
